Minesweeper.si is an independent, free-to-play version of the classic Minesweeper puzzle, built to run in any modern browser without downloads, accounts or installs.

Why this site exists

Minesweeper is a nearly perfect small game, but most browser versions of it are weighed down by pop-ups, forced logins, timers that pause when you look away, and controls that do not work on a phone. We wanted the opposite of that: a clean board, a working timer, honest controls, and a page that loads fast.

The game itself is trivial to describe and genuinely deep to master. That gap is what makes it worth putting on the web properly.

What we promise

• Free, with no account. No registration, no email, no paywall, no play limit.
• No download. The whole game is loaded as a page. Nothing is installed on your device.
• Your data stays with you. Best times are stored in your own browser and are never uploaded.
• Real controls. Mouse, keyboard and touch are all first-class, including long-press flagging and a dedicated flag mode for phones.
• Light and dark themes. The site follows your system preference and remembers your choice.

How it is built

This is a deliberately simple website. The front end is hand-written HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no framework and no third-party UI library. The board is rendered as a CSS grid, and the game logic runs as a small vanilla script. The result is a page that loads almost instantly and works on old hardware.

Accessibility is treated as a requirement rather than a bonus. The board is fully playable from the keyboard, controls are labelled for screen readers, focus is visible everywhere, and the colour palette is checked for contrast in both themes.

Independence

Minesweeper.si is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Microsoft Corporation or any other publisher. Minesweeper is a classic puzzle game; this site is an independent implementation of its rules, written from scratch.

Any third-party names that appear on this site are used descriptively, to explain the game's history and rules.

How we make money

The site is supported by advertising. Ads are kept away from the board itself so they never sit under your cursor during a game, and we do not sell or share personal information.
